Reflecting on 2024: Growth, Resilience, and Looking Ahead

Reflecting on 2024: Growth, Resilience, and Looking Ahead

As the new year begins, I’ve taken a moment to reflect on 2024, and wow — what a year it’s been! Many highs and lows, but always the consistent change.

It’s funny how, amid chaos and change, we can lose sight of our progress. But stepping back reveals the incredible growth we’ve made.

I often remind my clients of this: when it feels like your efforts aren’t enough, pause and think about how you would have handled things 6 months or a year ago. You’ll likely see just how far you’ve come.

Sometimes, therapists are their own worst patients.

Taking my own advice, I’m celebrating the milestones and lessons 2024 brought me, my family, and the Sex, Answered community.

Here are some highlights:

Personal Highlights

  • We kicked off the year by welcoming Bunny, a rescue, to our family. The jury’s still out on whether or not she and Romeo will be besties.
  • Valentine’s Day came with an unexpected visitor — COVID — that kept me down for two months. Thank you to my clients who patiently endured my muted coughs during telehealth sessions. Your understanding meant the world!
  • Over the summer, my husband and I moved to a beautiful suburb outside Portland, exploring swimming holes and the stunning nature of the Pacific Northwest.

Professional Milestones

  • Early in the year, I was honored to join NPR to discuss vulvodynia and its profound impact on intimacy and relationships.
  • I signed a book deal with Rowman & Littlefield (now Bloomsbury, of the Harry Potter and ACOTAR fame!). My upcoming book, Arousal, Answered, distills foundational concepts I’ve been teaching since 2012, helping readers access authentic pleasure and arousal through my Arousal Architecture™ framework. Stay tuned for updates!
  • The first half of the year marked a major milestone: the rebranding of our group practice into Sex, Answered. Along with a fresh website, we expanded our services to include self-paced courses, support groups, and intensives. We aim to make high-quality sexual health care accessible and adaptable to diverse needs.

Collaborations & Media

  • In November, I contributed to a documentary, Vagina Girl, planned for Sundance Film Festival submission this year. Collaborating with Tight-Lipped, I participated in a panel with other top healthcare experts on pelvic pain’s impact on mental and physical health and shared my dual perspectives as both patient and provider. It was a deeply emotional experience, and I can’t wait to see the final product.
  • Just days later, I appeared on KATU2’s Afternoon Live to discuss why men lose interest and how the Arousal Architecture™ can relieve performance anxiety.

Gratitude for the Team

The team at Sex, Answered, both clinical and administrative, is a constant source of inspiration and gratitude for me. Their care, skill, and unwavering commitment to helping others make being a leader meaningful and rewarding. I’m continually amazed by their knowledge and capabilities. You know exactly what I mean if you’ve worked with them as a client!

They are the heart and soul of everything we do, and I couldn’t be more proud to lead such an incredible group of people.

Lessons Learned

This year wasn’t without its challenges. Navigating tough conversations, confronting professional disappointments, and embracing my role as a “boss” stretched me in unexpected ways. But I’m learning to approach these challenges with the same principles I teach my clients: use the mind-body connection to find resilience and joy, even in discomfort.

My intention for 2025? To embrace pleasure and play in leadership and life, overall.

2024 has inspired me to deepen our mission and explore new ways to empower others. A possible new “pleasure program” is on the horizon, born from my own journey of feeling disconnected from play and purpose in 2024 and embracing this new concept for 2025.

Stay tuned for updates — it could be a game-changer!

Finally, I want to thank you. Your presence in this community is something I treasure. Whether my newsletters have inspired you, offered a new perspective, or simply made you smile, I hope they’ve brought value to your life.

Here’s to a 2025 filled with joyful memories, resilience, and growth — in and out of the bedroom.

Warmly,
Kayna
